Have you ever wanted to have a mirror that is unique to you? If you let your creative side loose, you can have just that. Making a unique mirror is not difficult or expensive if you use your imagination.
First, you need to find what materials you would like to make your mirror frame out of. This could be fabric, plates, garbage can lid, tiles, or a piece of lattice. Then choose the size of craft mirror that you will need to fit the frame, or to build the frame around it.
Fabric
A fabric frame can be made by wrapping the fabric around pieces of wood that are cut to 45-degree angles to make a square frame. A spray adhesive will hold the fabric in place. Then mount this square to a piece of plywood that will serve as a back to the mirror. Finally, use a waterproof adhesive to attach the mirror in the opening left by the fabric covered frame.
Tile
A tile frame is a little more complicated. You will need a piece of plywood that will be the back of the tile and mirror construction. First, you need to cut the tile so that it will make a frame shaped in whatever form you have decided on. Then spread tile adhesive on the plywood where the tiles need to be placed and press each tile into place firmly. Once the adhesive has dried, grout the spaces left between them and let that cure. Finally, attach the mirror in the middle opening with waterproof adhesive.
Plates
A colored plate can become the frame of your mirror if you glue the mirror to the existing circular section of either the top or bottom of the plate. Be sure to check the adhesive that you buy since not all will stick to type of material that the plate will be made of.
Garbage can lids and lattice
Using a metal garbage can lid or a piece of wood lattice, you can make a beautiful garden mirror. With a new garbage can lid, hammer the handle flat if you intend to hang it on a wall. Then attach the circular mirror into the center of the lid. The lattice will work much the same way. Choosing a piece of lattice that complements your garden or home style, attachˇ a mirror or mirrors into one or more of the openings with either glue or brackets.
Creative ideas abound for making your own unique mirror. Look around your home to find objects that could easily be converted to mirrors by adding a small craft mirror and a few decorations.
