Mirrors are an important part of your home décor. There are all kinds of fabulous shapes, sizes, and styles on the market but round mirrors are one of the most versatile. It's time you know your options.
First let's start with understanding what regular mirror glass is. Regular mirror glass is plain glass and the back is spray painted with aluminum which is what turns the glass into a mirror. IT is available in both 1/8" and ¼" thicknesses. The 1/8" thickness is much thinner so the weight of the mirror is much lighter.
The ¼" plate glass mirror is a lot heavier and much more durable making it the most popular choice. You pay a little more for that extra weight but it's worth it. It looks much richer and more expensive than the thinner glass. Another bonus is the edges can be beveled.
The lightweight glass costs around $5 per square foot where the cost of the heavier glass is about $6 per square foot. Of course we seldom buy mirrors by the square foot and it's the completed piece we pay for.
But since we are discussing cost we might as well touch on beveled edge glass too which will cost you around $40 a square foot. The price is so much higher because of the work involved in grinding the edge down to form the beveled edge.
Beveled mirror strips for the edge are an affordable way to dress up any mirror costing around $5 per foot. The beveled edge strip is used as a frame around the exterior of the mirror and is easy to attach using mastic.
Don't forget all your color glass options you have. There's pink, blue, and green but the most popular and most effective are the smoke and bronze. They provide wonderful soft reflections that rich and inviting.
Smoke and bronze work great in a kitchen, on a wall accented with wall sconces or anywhere where a bright reflection isn't required.
Round mirrors are a great shape choice because they lack corners but don't settle for being like everyone else. Get creative, and spice it up!
One way to save a lot of money on your mirror is to get creative.
Buy an old frame and place your mirror in it. It will cost you as little as a few dollars per square foot. If you've got any artistic talent grab your paint brush and start decorating. Will that be beautiful yellow roses or fun and funky stars? If you've got the talent use it!
Acrylic mirrors are a great choice for a kid's room because they are so durable and you don't have to worry about them breaking. They run about $7 per square foot. There biggest advantage is they scratch fairly easy and if you don't get them mounted completely flat your images will be warped. Of course the kids might like that.
Mirrors are a great décor item and round mirrors are the ultimate choice! There are great choices available online so are you ready to go shopping?
